Duncan Giles
Duncan Giles is a special counsel in Freehills Sydney (Australia) office with a Master of Laws in information technology, media and communications. He regularly advises a wide range of government and private sector clients on privacy and data protection issues, and information law generally. Mr. Giles is the Chair of the Law Council of Australia Business Law Section’s Privacy Committee, Chair of the Internet Industry Association’s Privacy Code Development Taskforce, and Vice President of the Communications and Media Law Association. In 2007, he was appointed as a member of the editorial board of the Privacy Law Bulletin. He is also a member of the Board of the International Association of Privacy Practitioners (Australia-New Zealand).
Mr. Giles was a member of the Advisory Committee to the Australian Law Reform Commission’s recent comprehensive review of privacy law, and of the Federal Privacy Commissioner’s reference groups for the development of the Guidelines on the National Privacy Principles and the Guidelines for Privacy Code Development. Mr. Giles was also co-author of the Andersen Legal Privacy Survey Series, the CCH 2002 Master Business Guide Information Technology Section, and Associate Editor-in-Chief of the Lawbook Company's publication eLaw Practice. Before joining Freehills, Mr. Giles was head of Andersen Legal’s global privacy practice and responsible for Andersen Legal’s online training excellence project.
