Michael Power

Michael Power practices law in Toronto, Canada and acts as a consultant on information risk to public and private sector clients. He previously served as Vice-President, Privacy and Security, at eHealth Ontario. Prior to that, he was a partner at Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP (Gowlings), a law firm with offices across Canada, advising on privacy and other information risk issues, where he also acted as Chief Privacy Officer. In his public sector career, Mr. Power held various positions at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the Department of Justice and Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat before joining Gowlings. 

 Mr. Power is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society and the Law Society of Upper Canada; he writes and speaks extensively on privacy and information security issues. He is the author of the Access and Privacy Title of Halsbury’s Laws of Canada, co-author of the American Bar Association best-seller “Sailing in Dangerous Waters: A Director’s Guide to Data Governance”, and serves on the senior advisory board of the IEEE magazine Security & Privacy.
